Cancun is the ideal place for an amazing vacation. Boasting fantastic beaches, incredible hotels, high-end shopping malls and some of the best clubs and bars on the planet.
Description
As cities go, Cancun is relatively young. Some 35 years ago it was decided that this beautiful area of Quintana Roo was going to be Mexico's next tourist hot-spot and today it has been developed into one of the most fascinating tourist destinations around. There are two parts to Cancun: Downtown is where the local residents live and a smattering of hotels, then there is the barrier island known as the Cancun Hotel Zone, which is where all the luxurious resorts and hotels are. Both areas are definitely worth exploring during your next Cancun Vacation. Cancun really does offer something for everyone, whether you want to party the days and nights away enjoying tropical cocktails and spicy Mexican salsas or you prefer a more tranquil vacation enjoying the Caribbean Sea and some of the cultural attractions located close by.
The options are limitless including funky laid back bars, spectacular super-clubs, or steamy salsa clubs, all tastes are catered for here in Cancun. It really comes as no surprise that this is Mexico's number 1 tourist destination.
Cancun's beaches
Cancun still has some of the best beaches in the world and the ones destroyed by the hurricane are currently in the process of being rebuilt. The views of the Caribbean Sea from most of the Cancun hotels are spectacular and the Riu Hotels still have beautiful beaches to enjoy. Try you hand at some of the water sports on offer at the Riu Cancun hotels, from jet skiing and Hobie cats to deep sea fishing and catamarans its all here on Cancun's stunning beaches.
Hotel Zone
The Cancun Hotel Zone is where the majority of hotels and resorts are located, including the Riu Cancun, Riu Caribe and Riu Palace Las Americas and it is where most tourists will spend the vacations. It is a barrier island that loops out from the airport and finishes at downtown Cancun. When you arrive on your flight and get your airport transfer to your Riu Hotel, you'll get to see quite a lot of the Hotel Zone, the nightclubs and shopping malls. In the middle of the Hotel Zone you'll find an area known as the Party Center. This is where the big clubs are, a handicraft market and some of the main restaurants.
Downtown Cancun
At the tip of the Cancun Hotel Zone you'll find El Centro or Downtown Cancun. This is a close to authentic Mexico as you can get in Cancun and it's where the residents of Cancun live. There are major shopping malls here, handicraft markets such as Market 28, and great local restaurants for those seeking a more authentic experience. The Yaxchilan Avenue has great restaurants and bars if you fancy a change, and clubs such as Mambo Café (a salsa club) are also located in the area.
