Puerto Vallarta Destination Guide
Puerto Vallarta is the perfect choice for a romantic break or a fun-filled family vacation. From the quaint cobblestone streets of downtown to the luxurious resorts and beaches Vallarta offer visitors the chance to have a cultural experience or just simply relax and enjoy the sunshine.
Riu Resorts in Puerto Vallarta
Venture out of your hotel and you'll find all sorts of attractions in and around Vallarta. You can take a stroll down to the marina and perhaps charter a fishing trip for the day, then they'll cook your catch when you return home. Or maybe a day on one of the spectacular golf courses is more to your liking? There are also many cultural attractions to enjoy, including museums, art galleries and El Faro the lighthouse, where you can take the glass elevator to the top and enjoy a tropical cocktail and the incredible view.
Old Vallarta, also know as the Romantic Zone, is also well worth exploring. They have a gorgeous cobblestone seafront promenade, lined by quaint houses with red tiled roofs, and balconies spilling over with a multitude of flowers. Browse around the small stands owned by local artisans and grab a wonderful souvenir of your trip to this fabulous destination.
Beaches
Probably Puerto Vallarta's most popular beach is Playa los Muertos. During the day it is busy with sun worshippers enjoying the soft sand and ocean, and then by night it turns into a great place to party. This beach is also one of the best spots in town to catch a view of that famous 'Vallarta Sunset'. Along with the many resorts and hotels, there are also lots of café's, restaurants and bars to visit and watch the world go by.
Located just north of town is the sandy beach of Playa de Oro, with its beautiful rocky outcroppings. This beach is frequented by both locals and tourists alike, primarily because of the vast array of water sports on offer here. As you head further north, all the way to Punta Mita, you'll find that the beaches become quieter and less busy. If you want to go and see the humpback whales in the winter, then Punta Mita is actually where you will depart from.
For anyone with a passion for nature, in particular birds, then a trip to Islas Marietas should definitely be on your list of things to do in Vallarta. The bird watching is amazing here, and you'll also have the chance to go snorkeling and diving.
Description
Situated beside Mexico's largest bay, the Bay of Banderas, Puerto Vallarta, from the air, looks like a small colonial city, surrounded by the emerald greens of the tropical jungle on one side and the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean on the other. The great thing about Vallarta is that it is a seamless blend of old colonial charm and architecture, mixed with services for today's traveler.
